    This presentation focuses on the cumulative effects of the daily work traumas of officers, including suicide, post-traumatic stress, sleep and anxiety disorders, depression, addictions, burnout, unprofessional service, and a host of other psychological and emotional distressing symptoms that can all cripple an agency's ability to meet the community's needs and fulfill the mission of the agency. This presentation provides evidence-based strategies that promote officer and organizational wellness, enabling agency leaders to create and improve upon mechanisms of support, resilience, trauma recovery, and wellness from recruitment to retirement.

    The Fight After the Fight with Ann Carrizales

    On October 26, 2013, Officer Ann Carrizales initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle occupied by three members of a violent gang known as MS-13. While speaking with the driver, a suspect opened fire, shooting her in the face and chest prior to fleeing. Carrizales immediately returned fire and while bleeding and in severe pain, got back into her patrol vehicle and began pursuit of the suspects. With the help of various police agencies and Houston Crime Stoppers, all three suspects were captured.

12:30 - 1:45 PMPromotional Preparedness: Purposeful and Effective Study Skills for Frontline Supervisors

This training program aims to provide law enforcement professionals with a foundation of leadership principles,
theories, and practical skills to help them advance in their careers. During the presentation and facilitated session, participants will learn about the challenges of front-line supervision and middle management to gain a broader knowledge of examination processes. This will help them to enhance their preparation and streamline their study processes. Participants will be provided with strategies for building systems for structured study plans and response strategies for the oral panel interview and assessment center processes. The training will be delivered through a combination of lecture, facilitation, and engaged discussion to ensure a comprehensive learning experience.
